Which thickness for your Akylux board?

Akylux is a corrugated polypropylene: two skins joined by flutes, like corrugated cardboard that is not afraid of water. 3.5 mm is the standard thickness for signage — it can be screwed, fixed with double-sided tape or attached to a barrier with cable ties. 10 mm doubles the rigidity: it is the one you need as soon as a board exceeds a metre or has to stand on its own without a support, otherwise it warps in the wind. Recycled Akylux 3 mm does the same job with a second-life material, useful when your public tender or brand guidelines require it.

Sizes available

Seventy-six sizes are available, from 10 x 20 cm for discreet directional signs up to the large dimensions of a site board. The intermediate sizes — 30 x 40, 40 x 60, 45 x 70 — cover statutory notices and site signage. If none fits, enter your own height and width: the board is cut to order, with a straight cut or contour cut if your graphic has a particular outline, an arrow for example.

Printing, fixing and finishes

Printing is single or double-sided, depending on whether the board is seen from one side only or from both directions of a street. Five ink options are available, including photo-quality CMYK for rich graphics and CMYK + white when the material must stay opaque. For fixing, eyelets go at each corner — the most common choice — or at regular intervals along one or more sides, which spreads the load on a fence and stops the board flapping. A gloss or matt protective laminate adds a UV and scratch barrier; anti-graffiti and dry-wipe versions exist for exposed locations or boards people write on. Rounded corners are recommended whenever a board is at a child's height.

Preparing your file

Work in CMYK, at 300 DPI, with 2 mm bleed and a 4 mm safety margin. On a board read from the street, favour large type and strong contrast: at five metres, a sharp logo and three lines are worth more than a full description. If you want a contour cut, supply the cutting path on a separate layer, or describe the shape you want and the workshop will build it.
