What changes when a wall is covered from floor to ceiling

An image covering a whole wall is not looked at like a poster: you walk through it. In a lobby, it replaces the blank wall your visitors stare at while they wait. In a meeting room, it gives video calls a recognisable background. In a hotel bedroom or a restaurant dining room, it is the decor on its own. You are not buying a material, you are buying a finished surface: what matters is no longer a catalogue size, but the dimensions of your wall.

File resolution can never be made up later

An image enlarged to the size of a wall shows everything a screen was hiding. A phone photo, an image taken from a website or an already compressed file look fine small and fall apart large: soft edges, grainy flat areas, blurred text. Send the original, not the lighter version made for email: a camera file, an unflattened editing file, or a vector drawing, which scales up without loss. If in doubt, send it to us before ordering: we will tell you how far it can be enlarged.

The match between drops is prepared in the file

Beyond a certain width, a wall is hung in strips, the drops, placed side by side. This division is decided before printing, not in front of the wall. Where the cuts fall and the hanging order are decided with you, on your file, before production. Tell us what must on no account be cut, a face, a logo, a line of text, as well as the obstacles: door, window, sockets, switches, inside corner. All of this is set in the file rather than with a craft knife.

Measure the wall before, not after

The measurement drives everything else, and it is taken on site. Note the width and the height, then measure the height again at several points: a floor or ceiling that is never perfectly level makes the figure vary from one end to the other. Keep the largest and note skirting boards, mouldings or trunking. A wall measured after the fact cannot be put right: too tight, it leaves a bare strip; too wide, it can be trimmed but cuts into the image. Finally, check that the wall is clean, dry and smooth, because wallpaper reveals the bumps it covers.
